Donation Spotlight - Glasswing Shop Gives Back with Aurora Commons

Situated in the Capitol Hill district of Seattle, Washington, Glasswing Shop was established not only to sell beautiful plants and accessories but to support and give back to the community to which it belongs.
By hosting and organizing workshops and events in collaboration with inspiring artisans, this small business has made a name for itself connecting hundreds of Seattleites over common curiosities. Aside from fostering opportunities for community education, Glasswing’s involvement efforts have centered around creating partnerships with local nonprofits working to support the most vulnerable in their community.
On any given night, upwards of 500,000 Americans will find themselves without housing. Of this population, 35% will go unsheltered in places not intended for human occupation. For those facing extreme hardship, a helping hand can make all the difference.
In collaboration with the Plant-a-Seed program, Glasswing Shop organized a donation, through Aurora Commons, of a dozen Round Two planters paired with beautiful house plants for unsheltered and unstably housed Seattleites. Aurora Commons is a self-proclaimed neighborhood living room, dedicated to creating a safe and comfortable environment for homeless individuals during the day. This organization operates on the fundamental belief that everyone has an inherent dignity and worth and seeks to be a place of authenticity, kindness, and love. Volunteers at this day-shelter supply hundreds with hot food, clothing, hygiene products, and outdoor gear every day.
Choosing to donate to this particular cause was a no-brainer for our partners at Glasswing Shop. “It’s a great partnership to share the life of a plant and the beauty of LBE Design planters with the community…” explains a representative from Glasswing. So what real difference could the life of a plant make in the life of a human being?
The simplistic nature of a houseplant as a living, breathing, and grounded organism has been found to reduce stress and boost overall morale. Put simply, caring for a plant or even watching one grow can brighten someone’s day. In receiving a houseplant, one gains a sense of responsibility over something that is alive and beautiful.
At LBE Design we believe the little things make a big difference and a simple gesture can make someone’s day. Thanks to our friends at Glasswing Shop and Aurora Commons, we have the opportunity to create a positive change in the day-to-day lives of those who come to find community at Seattle’s neighborhood living room.
